    After running the old pads to the metal on one side I had the rear pads and discs replaced in July.

    Now there is far more brake dust on the rear wheels than the front and the pads already have visible signs of wearing. If I touch the alloys after a run then the rear ones are warm and the front ones cool, I don't rag it on my commute as a rule.

    If I had a binding caliper I'd expect one side to be worse than the other, what could this be? Super soft pads?!

    Nearly all brands have a poorer 'Chinese' version these days. By 'Chinese' I mean poorer manufacturing, poorer materials, poorer quality control. Those brands that have legitimate Chinese manufacturing operations still make products of quality as they insist the factories use the brands own exact standards or put their own management teams in place there.

    Who did the OP have the work done by? I would take the car back and have the work / parts checked. New steel guide plates are usually put on after the pad frame is thoroughly cleaned. Operation of the caliper guide pins should also be checked especially under the rubber dust gators. Basic settings should also be performed on the EPB to ensure it releases far enough to stop the caliper piston exerting force on the pad when the EPB is released.

    Work was done in Germany near Frankfurt, while I was there the chap rang up for parts from some place that would select parts for you based on chassis number etc much like we would in the UK.

    As I'd gone metal on metal miles from home I was very grateful to be fitted in at the time, it was LOUD!

    Ze Germans do things properly in my experience.
    Either front brakes are siezed so the rears are doing all the braking or the handbrake mech needs adjusting.

    As it happens it was both calipers binding. I guess the pistons were corroded a bit and pushing them back for the new pads triggered the sticking / warm back wheels.

    I went to refurb the rear left caliper today but I couldn't get the piston to budge. Rocketed down to the parts shop for a re-manufactured unit, £230 inc VAT - ouch. Similar items are on ebay for £70 but it was in bits and I needed it for Monday - bugger.

    So I've gone the most expensive route to swap out rear caliper, pads and discs. What a pain.
