Does anyone have any experience with problems on this engine? Its 2008 with 147,000 miles. Sounds fine on tick over but with low revs becomes very noisy and a little smokey.

I have VCDS and can provide any numbers on something that might give me any clues.

The head is coming off in the next week as I believe it may be a camshaft failure but am not 100%

Anyone with advice or experience would be much appreciated.

Head is off and cam has signs of wear. Is there any chance the bottom end is damaged?

Cars sold with absent service history normally have been neglected and cam wear as a result .

    BXE has it's challenges....

Normally would any of those challenges be in the bottom end? Or am I likely to cure the problem replacing the cam? Thanks

They have a tendency to ware through a upper crank big end bearing shell , spot weld and throw a leg out of bed .

New cam and upper and lower big end shells I would .

Using the wrong oil can lead to excessive cam wear.

Turned out to be worn camshaft lobes, now replaced and running perfect.
