    Hi all,

Just got a nice new Q7. I only had one other car with no spare. So im thinking i should get a spare wheel somewhere and leave it in the garage. Do any of you guys do this? I dont want a fancy new alloy, just a steel wheel and some rubber.

The whole wheel thing is a bit confusing. I read that if it goes on a A4 B8 or A5 it will fit the Q7. Is this correct?

I live in an area where punctures are regular occurrence.

    thanks
    catbert

ps the Q7 appears to be fab from first impressions.

I just bought a Q7 too, previously I drove a Passat for 8 years which had a full size spare in the boot - I *never* had to use it - I guess that's why a lot of manufacturers don't bother including them now.

Yes I did that with old car i.e. got a freebie emergency spare off the dealer and kept it in my garage. Got 2 punctures and both times at/near home so very useful as got AA to change wheel over and then drive to type replacement place of my choosing.

I personally wouldn't bother. The way I look at it is if I get a puncher I'll just press the button which gets the AA out with a new tyre and I'll be back on road soon, OK I can't haggle the price but it's a sellers market at that point.
Having a spare in the garage is of limited use except for a slow puncher which deflates over night but I wouldn't replace the tyre for that anyway, I'd just inflate it and go to garage.

I had recourse to use an Audi technician yesterday from the Roadside Recovery service (not AA) on an unrelated matter. But I asked him what to do if I got a puncture. He said just call the Audi Assistance. Either they'll get an AA person to you pronto or typically a bit longer for an VAG technician. He carries spares in his van although this particular chap didn't have one to fit a Q7 on him (I had a battery issue). In the event he doesn't have a skinny spare to fit he said they generally take the wheel away there and then to nearest tyre fitter and get it changed over and bring it back, re-fit. Sounded OK but not sure how long that would take especially for the more exotic big rims.
