    Hello all,

I am a newbie to the forum so go easy on me .

I am currently looking at buying a Golf GT MK5 2.0 TDI in December/January.

I will be looking around the £2500 - £3000+ mark, which will probably get me around 90k-100k miles on it.

Should I look out for anything specifically on the car or in the service history? I was going to use the RAC Comprehensive Inspection, which covers; 307 Point Mechanical and structural inspection, main functions and controls check, full interior, bodywork and paint inspection as well as a road test.

    Thanks for any help/advice given!

Had two of these now and love them.

They had an issue with dual mass flywheel breaking up I think so worth checking that was sorted. My first one had a problem with brake calipers siezing and I had to have all 4 replaced eventually. Certain engines had porous cyclinder heads but it’s a quick check to see if the one you view is affected (search google). Also there was a problem with the arch lining rubbing and causing rust on the front wheel arches so I’d check for that too but asides from that, nothing else major comes to mind - highly recommend them!

What BHP version where you going for? The 140 or 170?

The problem with the cylinder heads. I looked into this. If you check the cylinder head number on the head there will be either an A,B or C at the end.
A- Very likely chance you will have problems
B- A few reported problems but not to bad
    C- Very unlikely

Go for a C if you can.
