I'm looking to perhaps buy a mk6 golf, however plenty I've seen around look a bit dull, so I'm thinking of limiting my search to GT models to make sure I get a half decent spec.
What exactly does GT spec include?

Any other models that I should keep an eye out for that will be good spec?

The wife wants an auto - these are always DSG aren't they? Are they reliable? Any problems to be aware of? Expensive repairs?

    Any advice welcome!

You can't download very old brochures as I've done on the old site which isn't available anymore.

I have a golf gt tdi 140 2009. its got a decent engine but not many toys inside - cruise control and electric windows lol.

im thinking of buying a 2013 mk6 gt tdi golf (150bhp) - preferrably with dsg box, it comes with dab radio, sat nav, cruise control, bluetooth, electronic brake, etc etc
or a 2013 bmw 118d auto which has a similar spec.

If the BMW 118d auto is anything like the newer one I got as a courtesy car, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. Controls scattered everywhere and the most uninspiring driving experience - I hated it!

Currently an owner of the 2.0 TDI GT on a 61 plate. Overall a good car, good mixture of performance and economy (80+ mpg long distance). From the diesel variants GT is the best model as far as aesthetics are concerned with 17" alloys, suede/leather interior etc. and also includes sports suspension which takes tight corners are ease. The car doesn't include start-stop which is also another positive. Compared to the Match, the car lacks rear parking, Bluetooth and the RCD510 as far as I remember with an outlay of around £500-£600.

The only regret was not buying a DSG. Always been an automatic-sceptic but recently drove a friends and it is a dream to drive compared to the manual. DSG has come a long way so you should have no problems.

Thanks for posting this - my wife thinks the golf is a bit dull and would rather I bought a 1 series! If I'm honest it's the dash, steering wheel and and interior that I'm not sure about with BMWs.

In the back of my mind I've always though a DSG would give me expensive problems on an older car. I once had an Alfa Selespeed and I've been put off any auto that wasn't a simple Auto! Perhaps I don't need to woory so much if it's VAG?
