I have just bought a 3.0 TDI Quattro, and I thought it has keyless entry, as it has the little squares on the door handles, which I assume are the sensors?
Reading the manual, it says keyless entry is possible if you have a convenience key, but I don't know if I do have one, what do they look like?
I have a VCDS scan of the whole car, is there anything that shows what system my car has, or would I need to go into the measuring blocks, or coding to find out?

All A6s whether they have the Advanced Key option or not, have the square recesses in the door handles. You can check if you have the option by looking at the sheet in the service book and seeing if it lists BGP, which is the order code for the Advanced Key. Given it is a £750/£1100 (Avant/Saloon) option it is not that common. If you have the Advanced Key option then you would also have the ability to open the boot/tailgate by waving your foot under the rear of the car and on the saloon you also get the power operated boot lid

There is no BGP in the build data, although we do have the powered tailgate. So it looks like I've been chasing a red herring with this!

All Avants 2014 onwards have the powered tailgate, it is the saloon that gets a powered boot lid with the advanced key option. It looks like you have just the standard remote unlocking/keyless go system

    Easiest way to test......

walk up to the car with the key in your pocket, stick your hand in the handle (don’t cover the little square!) and try and open the door

if it opens, you have keyless entry

to lock simply touch the little square with a finger

    Simples
