Hi every one, my 55 plate 2.0 140 has just come up with this oil pressure problem and Stop Engine" and a red symbol of a dripping lamp has come on as well. The manual says check oillevel, which is ok.

After driving another 10 miles with oil pressure lights on (travelling back home from work) Brakes were getting hard when driving under 5-10 mph, had taken to the garage and he did some checks and advised it needs a new engine,
Is this really the case or it could be something else.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Vinay

Oil pump failure, why did you drive it with no oil pressure?

Another member of the 77mm Club .

    STOP LOW OIL PRESSURE .

    So S T O P...

Incrediblely well known oil pump drive engineering issue .

A 2nd hand engine will still have the same issue , guess the turbo is goosed too .

Yes - it needs a new engine, finding a good used one that doesn't have this latent 2.0 litre oil pump problem will be tricky, in reality probably going to cost more than the car is worth, unless you DIY. Brakes coming on was probably engine seizing up.

*shakes head* What a waste. It’s surprising how many times I read posts like this where people are “so I decided to drive with it on” and then write their car off, If the road said STOP no road ahead! You wouldn’t just carry on driving.... Feel for you though man. It’s horrible having something catastrophic wrong with your car when you rely on it. Another reason I wouldn’t consider giving up my B5.5 for a B6...

    thanks for your reply.

I only drove about 10 miles from my work to home and then to nearest garage but when i checked the oil with dipstick, the oil was okay.

Oil level will be fine , it's the oil pump drive , it stops pumping and your engine can die as could a person with a heart attack.

You've killed it. Sorry, but that was what the warning lamp tried to warn you. To be fair though, sudden loss of pressure may of wrecked it anyway but trying to drive it for 10 miles just made sure you hammered a stake through its heart.

Oil pump i work in a motor factors and we get these calls all the time around the 2005 -2007 quite common on these years, I dont understand why you drove it 10 mile after tho as you have caused more problems to it you could rebuild your engine with a good mechanic and a week without the car rough cost around £500 new oil pump and chain kit timing belt kit aux belt oil and filter few gaskets but i would get the engine checked out to see if its seized first then go from there
