Hi guys I have a 57 plate Passat but I only have one key fob, the key fob will start the car no problem but it will not lock or unlock the doors .There is a red light flashes when I press a button but nothing happens
I have looked into fixing the issue but they all seem to involve the key in the ignition and pressing buttons which I cannot do with the fob in the ignition
I have also tried to lock the car with the hidden key in the drivers door lock but when I put the key in the lock it just turns round and round but nothing happens
Can anyone advise what else I can try

Sounds like you need to check the remote operation information with VCDS. Could be that the unlock / lock with remote is disabled. Sounds like someone has tried to force entry to the car as I've not heard of too many lock barrels failing without excessive force having been used.

The key you have should relearn the comfort functions but it is a bit difficult with only one key and a broken lock. There is a procedure somewhere for relearning the comfort / convenience settings.

The lock in the door don't look like it has been tampered with in any way the plastic key goes in the lock fine it just turns round and around and don't do anything
1 thing I have noticed is that if your sat in the car and press button on the fob you can sometimes hear a click with each button press that seems to be behind the glove box area but the car will still not lock

the only way I can get it to lock is pressing the button on the door whilst im sat in the car which isn't much use

When I say force entry I don't mean in a criminal sort of way but in the way that a previous owner may have stuck something in the barrel in a veign attempt to open the car when all else failed. Damage would be inside and not visible.

The click is your Comfort Control Module (CCM) reacting to the fob signal.

Maybe the lock has been disconnected inside the door or come lose somehow I will have to take the door panel off and check at this point I may be able to operate the door lock from inside the door and recode that way ?

I would of thought there was a way to code 1 fob with vcds ? what happens if someone loses both their fobs

Im also thinking is there a way to power the ignition without the key so that vcds will connect with the car

There certainly is. Just use a small screwdriver to press the unlock button while the key/fob is in the ignition.

The key turning 360' in the barrel suggests you have the wrong key blade for the lock.
