Is the gearbox oil same as the differential oil

Hi guys when you change the cvt box oil do you need to also change differential oil or when you change oil on box the diff oil gets changed to? on the passenger side drive shaft i can see a 10mm allen head

Hi! Don't know exactly what car you have, but Audi's CVT gearboxes use different oil in the gearbox itself and in the differential. Usually these oils aren't meant to be changed at all. They are "Filled for life, no change". If you still wan't to change these oils, then you need a special vacuum oil extracting tool for differential. Differential uses oil with part number G 052 190 A2 The gearbox uses CVT ATF oil, but I can't find exact part number right now. Capacity of differential fluid is aprox. 1.3 liters, but for CVT ATF it is 4.5 to 5 liters. For changing the CVT fluid you will need a special VAG tool VAS 5162 Allen screw you see is meant for the checking correct differential fluid level. This level should be 8.5 mm below bottom lip of oil filler hole. Also, this part is very sensitive to overfilling. All in all this process is pretty complicated. I wouldn't recommend to do it yourself, if you aren't a proffesional. Hope this helps and good luck with your car!

No the diff oil is different, on a Quattro model there are two differentials in the box, some of which use different oil to each other.

Cheers guy mine is fwd and i see there is a oil plug on the pass side of the trans where the drive shaft bolts on

Hi, Trying to get to the bottom of a problem dont know if i should remove tranny and then get it checked
Slowing down there is a judder as if something is loose and its knocking of something replaced both driveshafts improved noise slightly but still there
Thought i should check just incase diff has lost its oil motorway speeds car is silent no noise no judder no clunk im hoping its not the tranny belt or something expensive no codes in the tranny ecu dont know what it could be defo something rotational and goes silent on motorway
