Heated Mirrors

I bought an 02 plate 1.9 TDI SE A4 in April.

I notice that the electirc mirrors are not heating up. I removed a glass today and noticed that there are wires, but no contacts for them on the glass.

I switched on the heated rear window and measured the voltage from the wires and there was no reading. Can I get them to work if I replace the glass?

Or is this a main dealer job????

Most disappointed my mirror do not get warm!!!

What does your manual say about mirror heating? I have a 97MY A4 1.9TDI with heated mirrors, but the heaters only operate when ambient temp is below freezing (as for the door lock heaters).

It says they should get hot, but having removed the mirrors there are wires but they are not connected and there are no elements on the back of the mirror glass.

Switching on the heated rear screen and measurinf the voltage does not produce any reading??

can it be switched on by an audi dealer???

on the mirror adjuster inside the cabin, if you leave it in the centre postion do you get any voltage?? also does the "icon" in the middle setting on the mirrors have a little "wave" ~ icon next to it?

Some don't have the on-board adjustment. My A6 has them as standard and they work, I've seen them steem up, but I have no adjustment dial. I also checked by using the option code converter which is somewhere on this forum.

I checked with an Audi Technician, he said that my model did not get the heated mirrors or wahers jets as standard, althoguh they were on later A4 Se's, even though the wiring is there. And it would be a big wiring job to set up.

I am surprised to hear that comment from Derby Audi. My A4 is much older than yours, not an SE model, yet has heated mirrors and washers. Or it could be that Audi were being a bit more generous with goodies in 1997. Usually, the goodies tend to be acquired by the more recent models. Do you have heated door locks?

I have now replaced my passenger side mirror glass that I broke when I removed it to check for wires and the replacement comes with the heater element in the back, guess what, it now works?
