Hi, I am thinking of moving from an A6 to an A7.

Currently driving a 177 2.0 TDi A6 and I like the idea of a V6 for extra smoothness but I can see a choice of 218, 245 or 272 engines out there.

Obviously I will work on the assumption that more power is more fun but has anyone got a 218 they are happy with?

    Thanks

    Previous: 2013 C7 2.0 TDi S Line
    C6 2.0 TDI LE
    A4 2.0 TDI SE
and an ancient 80 in the olden days...

I would never get that option, A7s are heavy for 200hp, that is not enough...Even the 245 option is low (my petrol A4 has more HP).

My A7 is a 272 and it's about right for this size / weight of car, the 218 is probably fine most of the time but would be working quite a bit harder

Petrols often have more bhp - but lose out in the torque which is what makes the speed. The 218 has 369lb of torque which is a decent amount.

The answer to the OP is that depends on your driving and I would try them out. The 218 will be refined and in real world driving perfectly fine. The 272 has a greater turn of speed but is less efficient (the 245 is the old 272). There is a 313 that is even more rapid but there is a significant trade off in economy.

I have seen a quattro 218 on Auto Trader so I don't think so.

My bad typing - the other way around!! The 272 replaced the 245. Likewise there was a 205 before the 218. There was a mild facelift around 2015ish

The 218 came in both front wheel drive and quattro.
