My A6 is currently being recovered to the garage I bought it from as it threw up a gearbox warning and upon investigation it turned out it was remapped.
Audi says it needs a gearbox and ecu costing £9k. The warranty company aren't interested as it's been modified so I am fighting for my money back from the seller (trader), I've only had it 3 months.
This has put my off Audi as a possibility for my next motor. Maybe a 530d or 535d or even an xf.
    What should I go for? My A6 was a 3.0tdi Q

To be honest all modern cars can be remapped. They are all using turbo diesel/petrol engines to keep emissions low and it's so easy to squeeze power out of them by upping the boost.
Unless you are buying a new car it's quite easy to buy another that's been messed with. It's not entirely the traders/Audi/warranty company's fault as the previous owner messed with it. They are just telling you how it is. Your only recourse is the trader through potential lengthy legal battles.
a dsg oil and filter change might fix it or get it running for a while. Audi don't fix things, it's replace it if it's broken as the mechanics in dealership wouldn't have the skills to repair it and it will cost too much to train them. A gearbox specialist might be able to fix that for a lot less which is what the trader might offer rather than a refund.
I've been looking at other cars and the current e class is nice. If you get one with lots of options and the big double screen dash is very nice. I would say it's not quite as well executed as the virtual cockpit in the current audis but it's still very modern.

Should have bought from Audi. So many cowboys remapping and deleting DPF's always going to be a minefield.

Also got those eBay plug and play boxes that just over fuels the car to get power.
If it isn't gearboxes then it's dpf that needs fixed. Both expensive.
