I have a vw golf 4 of 1999. From nowhere the immobilizer was activated and using a SBB machine we managed to reprpgramme the immo but after a short while it happen again and we replaced the chip with a new one, checked the antena( it was okay) but the problem is not going away. What else can I do to have this sorted once and for all. Your help is greatly appreciated even of doing away with the immobilizer.

    Thanks in advance.

The instrument panels can be made by two different companies as far as I have seen, VDO and Motometer, I have had problems with the Motometer units losing their memory and the only solution is to replace the unit but on a car of that age it would be uneconomic here. However I do understand the situation in your country is different, even unique as I know buying spares can be a problem having experience of selling VW parts to Zimbabwe, it is not easy even getting the money transferred to start the process never mind actually getting the parts delivered, as they often get "lost".....

Thank you again. On that one I am not sure now but will have to check and come back to you. Right now I am at work and away from the car. Isn't any other way maybe to do away with the immobilizer function like you said its difficult to get the instrument here Zimbabwe.
    Thank you.

Hie, have checked the make and it's written VDO 2. Is there no other ways of bypassing or doing away with the immobilizer.

    Thank you in advance.

Yes the immobilser can be disabled in the engine ECU, I don't know if anyone in Zimbabwe could do it and I would imagine your easiest solution would be a South African company.
