    I've always used Michelin tyres so should be grand there and have a set of standard 16 with winters again Michelin. Currently using sirocco 18s

    I was going to do that, spare set of wheels with winter tyres, but couldnt be bothered with the hassle of changes wheels, so got all weathers on now. If like you said you will be caravaning and live in a hilly area, worth having the 4mo.

    Additional cost of having 4wd is the tyres and the haldex oil change. Apart from that, usual passat costs apply.

    It won't be a panic buy so I'll try and get a well looked after one and preferably one that has been owned by current owner for a few years so I can get first hand history. Thanks for sharing your experiences

    Haldex couplings should be serviced every 20k which is Haldex's own recommendation. It is even suggested that VW have reduced this to every 10k.
