Anyone ever come across an problem with the current model (2006) A6 2.0 diesel ? It idles unevenly when stopped, whether hot or cold. Dealer has replaced and updated computer to no avail.
Considered replacing it with a new model and the dealer tells me that he cannot guarantee that it will not be a problem with a new one.
Dealer has 3/4 similar cases in the last year and cannot find a resolution.
Anyone any ideas or experience of the problem?

This is down to the egr and its being investigated by the factory at this moment. Is it it multitronic gear box as well.If the egr is disconnected and the exhaust port blanked the fault is cured but this isnt advisable as you will be breaking the emmision regulations. Also its been found by altering the valve timing slightly the fault is reduced. Before all the diy mechanics chip in the egr is electronic not vac operated. Also the egr rod can break away from the flap and doesnt fully shut off.I am sure your dealer has done its best with this issue and they will be awaiting the latest software alteration. This fault is isolated to a few models within a certain production date and as far as i am aware there all a6 2.0 multitronics 2006 to 2007 chassis.Regards A8

I do have some sporadic issues with my 2007 2.0 TDi multi. Interesting to hear A8s point of view.

My car does occassionally idle sporadically when cold, especially when it's in neutral. The biggest problem is that it revs high for no apparent reason. I can be almost stopped and the engine is still revving at 1500rpm. Additionally it won't seem to chage up a gear, even when i'm at 2000rpm and try to override the multi by using the paddles. Additionally it won't drop below 1500 rpm until stationery. The idle is always 1000rpm when the car is having this problem. The normal idle is about 850 rpm.

I bought the car in March and the first issue was July. Then it happened regularly, especially through September. Audi have said that it's something to do with the recharge of gases through diesel particle filter and is 'normal'. My dealer has said that they've had several other customers with the same issue. The problem seems to have gone away over the last 3 weeks or so, but this has happened before.

Not sure if this ties in with your problem or not.

yes the particulate regeneration has some bearing on this but there is a definate issue with 2.0 tdi multitronic on a6 from a certain software version of the engine control unit. There maybe and i say maybe a repair coming soon as today i spoke to some one who solved this issue with live data to the factory and the boffins down loaded a fix which resolved the fault.I am keeping my fingers crossed as one of are customers has put up with this for 9 months. This forum and others helps me to see customers issues and compare and try to resolve with the faults i see.

Thanks A8 - sounds promising. I had a software update last Monday. Fingers crossed that it's sorted as I do like the multi gearbox...when it's behaving itself! You're not at Southampton Audi are you?
