    Yes as you have disconnected the leads from the battery, power comes from the battery not the leads. Some components store energy which can muck things up on reconnection, the hard reset dissipates any stored energy.

    Hmm, does it have a lead connected to the positive lead with a 10mm nut?

    Try removing the nut and separate the lead and connector, does this give you more wire to work with, can they touch now?

    Failing that bridge the gap with a spanner/ socket extension, do cover the positive terminal first though just in case.

    Ok. Did all that. Wouldn't start. Connected code reader, connected no problem. Then managed to get the car to start. No codes found. Just leaving it to run for a bit
