    They look fine, pull the ECU connectors and check for any furring.

    So in regards to the code reader picking up loads of faults could that just be down to a weak battery like the rac guy mentioned? Also the abs and esp light came on when he restarted it and didn't go out until he cleared the codes

    Most systems will log erroneous codes due to a low battery. I wouldn't worry unless you see any of them come back.

    So I put the new battery in and it fired up straight away. Tried again and it won't start, now the fan comes on and stays on until I remove the key and the oil pressure warning just came on too. And my code reader won't connect either

    Try a hard reset, disconnect both battery leads then touch and hold the ends together for a count of ten, reconnect and see how it goes.
