Aah got you. I'll check it out. Just been speaking to my mate and he knows a lad who had an A4 with the same water issue.

I'm hoping it's not a problem with the ECU but I didn't realise how cheap you can pick them up for, but obviously the question is how much to be reprogrammed?

Hopefully it is just the battery which is causing the issue though I will take the ecu out and have a good look round for water ingress.

Interestingly the car started a few times in the drive but then refused to start a few times also?

Sounds like the crank angle sensor to me G28, watch the rev counter when starting if the needle doesn't move when you turn the key the ECU isn't getting a signal from it, cheap part to replace and a common failure.

I've just had a read through some other posts regarding the sensor. It sounds like a possible cause in relation to the starting issue. I don't recall any stalling issues though. Roughly how much is one of these sensors?

Pattern one off EBay with two year warranty around £10, Audi probably nearer £50, EuroCarParts about £40.

There are relays under the ECU in the box.
I've had water in the ECU box, I found relays under water when I removed the cover.
2 relays had corroded and had to be replaced.

Hopefully I'll be able to get into the box tonight and see what's going on. I'll get a new battery, and have a look at that sensor, do you have a link to it?

Here's a link for the part, CRANKSHAFT CRANK ANGLE POSITION SENSOR FOR AUDI SEAT SKODA VW CPS SHAFT

Be careful removing the trim that sits below the wipers sometimes they are brittle, just take your time and work from one side to the other, it should come off in one piece. My car didn't stall with the crank angle sensor fault but sometimes it would feel as if the ignition was switched off for a split second.

Here's a link on where it is and how to remove it. Crankshaft position sensor on a 05 Audi A4 3.0L V6 - YouTube

So I've managed to get into the ecu housing and it looks as dry as a bone with no signs of water ingress...

Pull the relays see how they look. Get a crank angle sensor, it's cheap and the most likely suspect.
