    Hi all,

im looking at a 2014 Allroad 3.0TDi V6 and wondering whether to buy or not. Is there anything known to be a weak spot on these motors which should be checked out before going for it? Also, would that engine have camchain or cambelt, if the latter I guess it's a 4 year replacement interval, so would be coming up next year?

Not sure about known issues but I'm pretty sure it's a camchain.

One thing to watch for is the gearbox oil change....every 38k. So either make sure it's been done, or use it as a bargaining point if it's coming soon.

I think, the replacement is based on the usage and the mileage and not by a period. One of my 3.0TDI's chain was replaced, but definetly not when the car was four year old.

Well as it happens I bought a 2014 3.0 TDI Quattro yesterday! I researched the engines, and nothing really comes up. Earlier versions suffered injector failure, and a few camchain wear, but it seems this engine is sorted now.
I did notice gearbox fluid change at 38K in the schedule, so not sealed for life any more!

    Auto.

Manual still probably still sealed for life. Our C5 2.5 manual still shifts silky smooth with 203,000 miles on it, on 16 year old oil.

The stronic gearbox requires oil changes every 38k. The tip tronic on the bi turbo is technically sealed for life but I would still change it if it was my car.

Just re-read the service schedule, and it seems the auto / tiptronic have no oil change service for petrol or diesel. It's the hybrids that do have one.

I'd change the oil in the ZF Tiptronic at 70 to 80k miles or earlier if it starts getting clunky. Did it in my C6 despite the "sealed for life" positioning... it was getting clunky changes. Audi dealer protested that it was sealed for life but I insisted - and paid a lot for the change to be done. The oil is not cheap and it is labour intensive as it seems the gearboxes were not designed to make an oil change easy. On my C6 the gearbox returned to it's "new" self after the oil change so it was definitely worthwhile.
@54A4Avant... bear in mind that there are two gearboxes in play here. the 204 / 245 bhp V6 units have the 7 speed S-tronic dual clutch auto. Oil changes mandated every 38k.
The BiTdi 313bhp is the ZF 8 speed 'traditional' torque converter "Tiptronic" auto box - that is the discussion earlier in this post. It's a very robust gearbox - used in everything from Range Rovers to Bentleys

Audi quotes £225 for S Tronic oil and filter change and service interval is 38k.
As far as diesel is concerned, it definitely does need changed. I guess petrol would be the same but don't quote me.

Omit the service at your peril
