    Hello All

Ive just picked up a 1999 MK4 Golf Cabriolet

the car was cheap as it had issues cutting out and or starting

I've sent it to a mate of mine who runs a VAG garage in Swanley in Kent (he is excellent by the way) pm me for his details if your in the area and or need some work doing

he replaced some pipes/hoses and gave the car a good looking over, suggested the exhaust needs replacing or at least will in the near future

however it would seem that the immobiliser is to blame for the starting or cutting out issues,

he has suggested putting a new ignition barrel in but the cost seems huge compared to the value of the car

has anyone had this problem and or does anyone know of anyone who could look into faults on the immobiliser

    thanks in advance

    regards

I am heading into London for work next week.
The mk4 convertible is actually a mk3 technically (all the underpinnings are).
The coil for immobiliser should be relatively cheap. Can scan car for you and find out what the issue is. Reader coil is relatively easy to replace, if anything a bit awkward.
Can also reprogram keys to immo - if you have all to hand. Takes about 2 minutes and would show if there is an issue with transponder itself.

This sounds perfect. The car was scanned by the mechanic who said he was going to get the codes over to me. Oh well.

He did say that they all pointed to the immobiliser

Only have 1 key. If I buy another off ebay can you program that also.

    How much would you charge.

    Thanks.

Also said he would get the codes over. Guess he has been busy

Send me a personal message with your details (phone number).

If you get a key off ebay and get the blade cut and it has a transponder in it I can program it. You can also get one cut at locksmith, they are only about 15 quid cut with transponder that can be coded to car (you could even use transponder from breakers).
New key should have an ID33 transponder in it, e.g. VW T4 Golf Passat Polo Sharan Vento Seat Marabella Toledo Schlüssel +Transponder | eBay

Will need 1 working key that is authorised on immobiliser (i.e. your current key).
Just for key programming etc I don't charge a lot, depends on how far I have to travel. I'll be fairly central in London for work (just inside CC), which end of town are you?
