If you do not have Audi Connect then you have MMI RMC, be aware the MMI version in the new Q7 is not the same as that in the A6, the A6 will get that version or an enhancement of it next year. Reverting to your original question, in Telephone under settings you have the option to turn on Bluetooth Audio Streaming. With that turned on then go the the"Paired Devices" option and you can include Audio Streaming for your paired device. Once done, then under Media you will have the paired device as another option. Be aware the control of the bluetooth streaming from the car is somewhat limited so selecting the streamed source etc will need to be done on the devide itself

Audi Smartphone Interface, which gives you Apple Carplay and Android Auto, requires the Tech Pack option, if only because it needs the USB connection (the A6 does not allow CarPlay over Bluetooth, think the new 5 series is the first car of any brand to offer that) which replaces the ANI port in the armrest to connect the phone.

Bluetooth should be supported. What you have to do is:
Establish Bluetooth connection for the phone.
Select media on the MMI - just press button on the Center console
Select source - as I remember right top corner
Your phone will be presented on the list along with SD etc
Select your phone using control knob in the centre console
Start any music app on your phone

I use it everyday

Being a 2017 model, you may have the Audi Smartphone Interface, where the phone can be controlled on the MMI, once connected by cable, using Apple Carplay or Android auto. If not it can be retrofitted. I'm looking into getting my A7 activated. Costs approximately £270, plus labour to initialise it via the Audi servers.

Not sure I fully understood, I've got an A6 / Black Edition / 2.0 TDI Ultra / 2016 (FL - MY17) / S-Tronic / Daytona Grey. However I don't have the Tech pack. I ordered the car very early in the upgrade cycle and although the Smartphone Interface / Apple CarPlay was available as a £250 option, Audi didn't publicise the fact that it was an available until 2 or 3 month later (crazy, I know!). As such it was a real regret that I was not able to specify it

I asked Audi at the time and they said it could not be retro fitted....are you saying that it is now available for my vehicle?

I did contact Huntingdon Audi via the ebay sale and they confirmed my car is updateable from my VIN. However, when I rang my local Audi Dealer about carrying out the update they didn't have a clue what I was on about. I'm just going to hang on a couple of months and try to order the part and get it activated at my local Audi dealer. There is a thread about ASI on the Q7 forum Genuine Audi Smart Phone Interface but it still seems early days about actually getting this done.

You are likely right, notably that the USB is needed. But that looks like it only refers to the Q7.
