Hoping the lack of rod movement is due to split diaphragm. ....

Question, if VW come back and say it needs a new turbo, is that a fairly straight forward job. As if they do, i'll get a turbo and fit it myself if there is no setting up to do....

Another question, I'm going to tell the dealer NOT to do the emission fix while they have the car. Want to make sure this problem is fixed before potentially introducing another can of worms... Presumably i can read the software version on VCDS to check the before and after version, but not sure how to do that - can someone advise please - if i do a auto fault search will it also list the SW version??

    Thanks
    Paul

Take it to a competent specialist, they will fix it with a new actuator and won't ruin the car with a stupid unnecessary software change.

But surely VW won't say it needs a new turbo until they've had the car in, removed the suspect actuator and checked the vnt operation, and you've committed to paying for their time and diagnosis? would you then take the car away and fit the turbo yourself and still have to fit a new actuator and set it up. Everything discussed here so far points to split diaphragm only, you can check vane operation once the actuator is off, fit and set up a new actuator or take to decent specialist as Crasher suggests.

So does a new turbo not come with the actuator?
Anyone recommend a VW specialist in the Oxford area?

New turbo comes with an actuator. 9 times out of ten its just the actuator diaphragm split.

    Thanks.

Is there a way to read the sw Version to confirm they haven't done the upgrade despite being asked not to?

Still at least i've done most of the work myself so saved a shed load...

They say it comes in 3's so hoping that's it for a while....

Many thanks for all the advice and help.
