got a 2000 a6 avant, 2 remote keys. 1 key worked fine, 1 never worked remotely.
yesterday, the working fob stopped working. my wife opened the car manually, and drove off. however the alarm triggered, and would not turn off.

I plugged my diagnostics machine in, autoboss v30 elite. and found the car is not recognising the drivers door open.

We can open manually with the key, but it only locks and unlocks the drivers door. the switch inside will lock and unlock ALL the doors and boot. tried various key sync procedures found on toutube, but can not get the remotes to resync, and yes i have put new batteries in.

I dont have vagcom, nor do i know anyone that does.

My wife uses this car for work, and at the moment is driving around the villages with the alarm flashing the indicators lol

the car does have a few other issues, rear windows only work from drivers door, part of the dash display is missing a few lines, the radio volume is dodgy, however these are things we can and do live with as the car is big, comfy and does 50mpg.

but the remote/alarm issue i need to deal with asap

Do the interior lights operate properly when doors are opened ?.
Radio volume may come back by connecting vcds or possibly disconnecting battery, not sure if you need code for resetting.

Screen flex cable on these models fail usually. Normally, a replacement display can be fitted to fix that issue.

There are some microswitches on the door lock, maybe they have failed and that's why the system thinks the door is opened. They can be replaced, or you can fit a whole new door lock.
