After finding one of the dip beam lamp holders on our 2011 car had melted slightly I found it's been replaced by a kit of the holder, mounting ring and an electrical connector.

Has anyone bought this kit and know if the new holder itself will fit in the existing mounting ring?

If not then I guess the headlamp needs to be removed, which I'd really like to avoid.

I went ahead and bought the kit today and thankfully the bulb holder does fit in the existing mounting ring. I had a look at the mounting ring contacts as best I could with a mirror and torch and they looked OK.

Kit p/n is 5K0 941 109C (old number was same without the C) - cost was £13 from dealer. The bit you grip is shorter so does make fitting more awkward - on our car (it's the basic 1.4 non-TSi petrol - the Twist model) I found the N/S was easier to get to so put the new one in there. I reckon it would have extremely awkward in the O/S - it was very awkward with the original holder to be able to grip it and 'snap' it into place.

I think the holder may overheat as the spade sockets that the bulb itself pushes into become loose over time. I carefully closed them up a little so the bulb was gripped better.
