    Hello there!

Does anyone knows the way to go for a new alternator?
    Mine is an old-tired 70amp. I'm thinking in a 120amp or more.
    Can anyone recommend one?
    Thanks

Upgrading can be a complicated process, if you want to buy an exchange unit off the shelf you will normally have to pay a surcharge. When we buy exchange units I will use nothing except a genuine Bosch unit but still we get the core unit issue. The next problem is that parts around the unit and brackets, belts etc may also need to be changed the easiest way is to find a higher output unit off of a related model and buy all the bits used BUT hand in the alternator for exchange. You should find upgrading to 90amp easy, 120 could be a problem.

Looking deeper into it a 90amp looks easy but there is also an AUA/BBY 110amp which looks possible using a Bosch alternator that originally had the part number 036 903 024 D on AUA and BBY with air con.

By the way. Thanks for reply. It is fantastic to read all your other post and solutions.
Just for the record. The little polo has, almost all, originals parts or close. I'm not a "tuneup freak"
So... I really appreciate the your recommendation

I love modifying cars, anything for that matter, but I am obsessed with detail, it is causing me a conflict of feelings with my 72 Bug, do I go absolutely original as far as is financially possible or do I go resto mod, full on modified, custom, or something else...

Thankfully Mrs Crashers 9N3 came from the factory with a 1.8T, but of course I could not prevent myself tearing into the car, remap, brakes, wheels. I did the same with her brand new Polo 6N1 16v in 1999, suspension kit, stereo, exhaust, wheels, brakes, tuning, 7 miles on the clock....she nearly divorced me she was so angry.

hahahahaha It is dangerous to show you a new car!
You know what?. I guess I'm going for the 90amp. The old alternator has 3 mounts Ø8mm and a sliced mount that allows you to adjust the position with the tensioner. (( I'm' sure those are not the real technical names, but I'm not a english speaker myself )). Looks like, that kind of configuration, confine me to 90A.
Just like you said it would be
    I found this ones
    ALANKO 90A
    Product Nr. 443716

    or
    BOSCH 90A

    Product Nr
    0 986 041 310

I guess those are good ones. Right?
