I posted a few weeks ago about how I’d had an air con service and the air con wasn’t blowing cold afterwards.

Been back to the dealer today and they say they need to do some wiring checks but they think a sensor is gone on the ‘high pressure side’ of the system. The part is £66 and fitting is £120.

I asked why this hadn’t been picked up during the service and they said they only change the gas and oil in an air con service which seems fair enough.

£120 to change a sensor while I wait seems a bit heavy as well as £66 for a part. Anyone got any suggestions/comments or has experience this?

    Thanks

Guess it depends how accessible the sensor is. If it's the pressure sensor sometimes the bumper needs to come off etc. Maybe get some other quotes if you're concerned about the price?

If its on high pressure side wont they need to recover the gas, change sensor then recharge the gas? That could be what the labour charge is for.

Just shy of £200 and they ‘think’ it’s the sensor! They gonna refund you if it isn’t?
No experience on the A6 but in my old car it was behind the bumper.

My AC high pressure sensor is behind the front bumper, just below the RH headlight. But it only takes a few minutes to remove the bumper - one small screw in the liner in each wheel arch and two mounting bolts, accessed through the pop-out vents towards the outsides of the bumper, or behind the fog lights, if fitted. There are Youtube videos showing how to disconnect the bumper from the wheel arches.

I don't know about your AC sensors, but mine have Schrader valves in the ports they screw into - the sensor tip opens the valve as it is screwed in - so that they can be removed and replaced without losing the refrigerant (what you call "gas").
When removing a sensor, after slackening it, it should be screwed out rapidly so the valve closes as quickly as possible, to minimise any loss of refrigerant.

I would get another quotation for that job, preferably from a qualified car aircon specialist.

www.airconditiongforcars.co.uk, a clued up bloke who posts some generic fixes on his page, if they've over filled the system that could cause the same issue. And if I was cynical I'd say they were blagging you off with unnecessary work.
