Been to an Audi dealer near me. They say it's a sfl unit so preformed a software update on the gearbox itself. Seems to have worked tbh. Even Audi say some cars are sfl, maybe the early models, who knows??

The people who made the gearbox.

Let's be clear. Audi would pride themselves on producing engines that work these ZF gearboxes hard - harder than BMW or Mercedes etc. And they never need an oil change... This reduces the apparent cost of ownership of Audi cars because most of the ones that break will be well outside warranty and installed in a car with a powerful engine - so "obviously" you have been thrashing it and you got what you deserved.

Now ZF state that the boxes need a service after some distance (50K miles or whatever) or duration (5 years). They really have little to gain from this other than maintaining their engineering reputation - which companies like Audi are happy to tarnish.

It's a shameful collision of marketing (Audi) vs. engineers (ZF)

Oh I'd get mine serviced - I did my C6 and I'm planning to get the C7 done next year.

My BiTDI is due its second service. (2015 FL model)

I notice that on my 1st service Warrington Audi stuck a sticker on the dash (hidden when the door closes) saying the gearbox should be serviced at 38k miles.

I assuming that somebody got confused as the only thing in the service manual is for the DSG box service at 38k and everything on this thread suggests the ZF tiptronic does not need a service or much higher mileage before even considering it?

Some Muppet thought you had DSG, obviously. Despite me getting my oil changed every year they still have me down on the flexible schedule. Not confidence making is it.
