The MMI will show you Google Earth, but not the Google Maps services. It's nothing more then display layout, and not a routing service.

By this, the MMI uses the Audi MAP database for the route planning, and it will not get any information from Google Maps. The [Online] services are provided by Audi, and it is not the same as you can get from Waze, or Google Maps.

If there are no free updates does anyone know the cost of paying Audi for the update? I have a 2014 Pre Facelift C7.

I have just just got back again from getting lost around a rebuilt Eindhoven motorway network ( completed last year) and might just update to avoid a recurrence.

    thanks

The explanation I got from a mate of mine who works in Audi said you are paying for a tech to sit in your car for approx 2 hours to watch the progress bar and the MMI screen go through several cycles until its done. Also they charge an activation fee for the maps

if you Google hard enough you will find another way........

I think he was meaning illegal ways 😄
I've seen map updates from dealers for around £150. They have offers now and again. Some of the new maps requires later mmi firmware so you will get these with the maps as part of the package. £150 isn't that's bad in my opinion, it's better than £1000's for a new mmi unit if you fry it from a dodgy update.

Got a quote from my local dealer Swansea Audi. They're asking £191 plus £65 Labour. £256 seems a lot when you can buy a sat nav with lifetime updates for less. If anyone in South Wales sees a special offer at the £150 mentioned above let me know please.

Google Maps can be used if you have CarPlay. Still wont beat the MMI system IMO.
