Until the orangefacedmoron gets impeached and the US can start to listen to people like Musk and Gates, the oil lobbyists will keep pockets lined and a dull blanket over the possibility of alternative fuelling for vehicles and stationary needs alike.

Plus technology will move on in 25 years..... it is just a clever way to please certain people and groups, in 25 years cars will not be what they are now, it will probably be just natural progression anyway, most cars will be hybrid by then anyway... take Volvo for instance.. they have already said no cars will be built from 2019 that use just petrol/diesel... I can see ALL following suit ... that is 2 years away NOT 25

Nothing to worry about.. just keeping the tree huggers happy

Still pretty useless if it takes six hours to charge.

I still think that swapping batteries is a better idea.

Even if it took as little as 15 minutes to recharge, how much space and how many charging points would a motorway service station need to deal with the normal flow of customers?

Most cars do around 500 miles between fuel fills, and take less than 5 minutes to fill the tank.

If a typical electric car does 100 miles between charges and takes even as little as 15 minutes to charge, they will need 15 times the space, 15 times as many charging points as there are pumps, plus a clever system to avoid huge queues in and out.

It is like how that Australian idiot that Gordon and Tony employed (and Knighted) to advise them over diesel, he said the car manufacturers said they could do it but lied to him and it took 20 years to get there. Ohh and he is the same bloke who convinced TB that Saddam Hussein had WOMD...

The thing is if industry does not deliver on these promises and targets but our infrastructure and way of life is readapted in anticipation, we are screwed! At least I will be dead by then so I won't have to worry....

Could always find out how Tesla have managed to do an electric only supercar that does 300 miles .... lets face it the only electric car you can use, must have patents up to there eyballs most others can manage 100 tops...

The technology is already there, Tesla have proved it and it is affordable with the new Tesla 3, but I expect there is that many "backhanders" that have stopped everyone doing it now... no need to fuel, less tax, oil companies out of work, the list goes on...

The success of the Tesla 3 will depend, as for all cars, on the extent of their dealership network and particularly on the skills of the employees. Lack of these will destroy the reputation of any new car.

A good (well, bad, actually) example of this is the NSU, later Audi, Ro80.

I took delivery of mine, at the factory in Neckarsum, on October 2nd 1968. It was promised for the beginning of my 2 month leave, but was delayed for a month - the first disappointment.

I never had any problems due to the actual engine, probably because it was used almost entirely for long journeys, so the rotor seals didn't get carboned up, but there were a series of minor failures, and we soon found that at least 90% of the agents in Europe were incompetent. In fact there was only one agent in the UK, in Blackpool, that I trusted.

Many agents had only worked on NSU motor cycles, and I became used to the look of horror on their faces when I drove into their yards (they were usually in a back alley somewhere). One guy even disappeared round a corner and hid More than one agent said the engine needed replacing when it had a minor fault with accessories.

I eventually got hold of a factory repair manual, so was able to do all the work myself, and the car was still running like new when I sold it in June 1970.

In Tesla's the battery is 40% larger than average. Anyway, within the next decade Tesla will go bust, they have not made a profit yet.
