    Hi Guys and Girls,

    I've just bought this vehicle, took a risk, with engine management lights and roof not working and body damage. But fell in love, with the older body shape and colour (graphite grey)
    Drives nice a smooth, not particular fast, but hey ho.

    So, I have cleared the engine fault codes using a device similar to this one;
    Stoga U480 CAN-BUS OBD2 ENGINE SCANNER CODE READER can bus OBD 2 Diagnostic Scan Tool: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike
    It worked, but I'm expecting the faults to be triggered again if they are legit.

    I wondered if the same device can be used to diagnose the roof issues;
    • Essentially, the roof will attempt to open, but stops when the rear compartment opens. I' guessing this is a sensor, but need to locate which ones
    • I've attempt the manual reset with no success.
    • Incidentally, manually opening the rear compartment is pretty difficult, but it opens automatically ok
    • I've always got the error message icon flashing and beeping when setting off, and the error message indicating that the roof is not locked when it is

    Unrelated, the boot does not open, I've guessing that this is the regulator.

    Rubber coating on switches, has anyone worked out a solution of improving these then the stupid rubber coating is worn ?

    Besides all this, it's 15 years or so old, love the car, concerned about MPG, insurance, running costs, road tax, bla bla bla

    I'm based in southport, northwest so if anyone feels like a beer and a chat about my vehicle then great.

    Ok , I had a play with the roof today, and found that the rear manual locking key is really difficult to open or close the rear hatch
    Further, I noticed that the rear shelf does not seem to rise and drop.
    Would this prevent the roof from going into the rear boot ?

    I'm beginning to think this will be beyond me, is there someone is the northwest that specialises in audi cabriolet roofs ?

    On a lot of these Audi cabriolets, the system will not allow the roof to open on auto if there is a fault with the boot lid lock, as if the car thinks the boot is open it would foul the opening of the rear deck etc.There is a small motor and drive set up for the boot to open on the invisible button above the number plate.
    When the motor goes wonky it will stop the latch returning, so that the boot will not lock back down.You can open the boot using your key in the lock next to the aforementioned button.If you do manage to open the boot using the key, remove the carpet panel from the lid and investigate the small motor, its on the right hand side connected to the lock mechanism.
    Ref the roof, it might be sticky in its operation due to low hydraulic fluid, worth a check.
    In your boot you will see a horizontal lever which allows the stowage cover to drop, thus giving room for the system to put your folded roof into the boot stowage area.
    Have a look around the forum for the guide to members with vagcom/vcds analysis kit, who live or operate in your region, there are some really helpful fellas on here, who may be prepared to pop in and scan your car accurately.
    My 2.4 petrol 2002 5 speed manual happily gives me around 35 mpg,, but remember shes a cruiser, not a racer, with around 170 bhp in a heavy lump of a car.
    Just a couple of things to think about, dont write her off yet, good luck
