    Hello all,

I'm attempting to fit some after market subs / amp in the Q7, but I cant find a decent remote feed (to power the amp on / off at engine turn on / off respectfully).

In previous cars, I've taken the feed from the 12v socket in the trunk, but this time I thought I'd check the fuse panels and see if I could take a feed from there (socket is a but difficult to get to).

I've checked all the fuses and found them to be live, I would assume that if they power down on engine turn off, they wouldn't be live (13.8v)????

Please can anyone help me in this predicament?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

For those that are interested, I ended up pulling out the 12v socket in the trunk, tapping into the +ve and taking my feed from there, being careful and checking with a volt meter at each step.

Turns out the socket in the trunk is screwed in, but I yanked it out with a bit of force. I tried to screw it back in but it was difficult, so I set the plastic nut to the right tightness, leaving space for the carpet to wedge in, the got it back in at an angle, with a swift push, it's back in like it's not even been touched.

Tested and works with engine on and off.

happy days, hope this helps others too.

I was under impression that all 12v cigarette sockets are switched off with the engine off. Does it still work with ignition off as well?
BTW, which Sub did you go for?

    Also, any pictures??

Indeed, to my knowledge all 12v sockets go off when the engine is off, this in my opinion is a good source for a remote turn off and on if using 3rd party equipment like amps or dash cams, it prevents the battery going flat...

If you need an always live feed for whatever reason, you can take a feed from any of the fuse boxes as from my tests, all fuses are still live even at engine turn off... odd as I've not experienced this behaviour in other cars, but it is what it is, lesson well learnt... (yes I drained my battery by taking a direct feed in the hope it would function like other cars).

I personally wouldn't want to have the 12v sockets on if the engine is not on, as stated before, depending on how much power you are pulling, you'll most likely end up draining the battery.

Kit wise, I'm running 2 x 12" pioneer spl champion subs with a pioneer spl champion mono block amp. Both subs are DVC so they allow to be wired at 1 ohm. I'm pushing 2000/3000w rms with a peak of 4000/6000w (these are nominal figures, real tests would have to be done to get a true measure). I'm using a line converter and feeding off the sub input, but I think when I've worked the pin out on the Bose amp, I'll switch over to the cleansweep.

I'll upload pics by the weekend as I'm currently getting a new sub enclosure made, this should be ready by Friday and will just need a simple transfer of kit. I've gone with ported as it will give a deep bass. If you like a tight crisp bass then sealed is the way (also uses less space).

    hope this helps,

I thought that the 12v stayed on for a timed period after the engine was shut off. It isn't immediate on switch off, but it's not a permanent feed either. Certainly that was the case in my A6...

Hi, yes this was the case in the A6, but seems like things have changed a little in the Q7, It defo cuts the power to the 12v socket feed as when I turn the engine off, mmi is still playing and I have a display in the VC, but my amp/subs drop out (turn off) as well as the apple tv etc...
