hi are you sure its the water pump leaking ,when i recently bought my current q7 it had just had water pump and thermostat done but it was still losing coolant ,i decided to strip it down myself as it looked a bit of a job and i did not want to get ripped, mine turned out to be a plastic coolant housing above the water pump in center of engine ,was a massive job to do but so glad i did it myself,i cant quite remember how difficult the water pump was to access but i will have a quick look at front of engine tomorrow and see if it refreshes my memory, have you got a lot of coolant in the middle of the engine or just down the front

Hello mate, it is the waterpump seal the is leeaking and i can now see where it is coming from, i am going to do the pump and thermostat together as soon as i can. Do you know the torque setting? And where the bleed valve is?

to be completely honest i ended up stripping everything off the front of my engine and i did not bother with any torque settings,im a bit old school ie when the bolt feels right im happy except for head gaskets obviously ,also i could not find a bleed valve anywhere ,spent ages looking and surely there is one ,i bled mine the old way ,heaters on full cap off bit of rpm until heaters got warm blah blah im sure you know the drill, anyway its been spot on since and done loads of miles ...all good,i will have a quick look under bonnet tomorrow and try to refresh my head on water pump and keep you posted
