    Hi All,

I've got the classic problem with the intake manifolds full of crap. I opened it up yesterday to have a look and the swirl flaps seem to be sticking on the right hand side (as you look at the engine). There is obviously lots of black oily gunk inside and seems to be not helping with the flaps opening. I've ordered the replacement arm from Audi and there appears to be play in the bottom part of the cam arm that the flaps are attached to, but there does not seem to be much if any play in the flaps themselves when i give them a gentle wiggle with some pliers.

I'm hoping to avoid replacing the whole intake manifolds as I tried to get the right one off and a coolant pipe is making life difficult (it lines up with the third bolt up on the lefthand side of the manifold housing). Any advice on how to remove the manifold with that in the way would be appreciated. If I can get the manifolds off I'll give them a good clean and replace the swirl flaps with the ebay kits.

I have also got hold of the Normfest Diesel EGR cleaner aerosol. Will this be ok to use even though the manifolds are plastic? There was an almighty amount of crap in the pipes leading to the throttle body. Good idea to use?

    Thanks for any help!

Used the EGR cleaner, did a great job of cleaning the egr if the inside of the linkage was anything to go by, but as soon as the exhaust gases mix with air it stops burning off and is all tar like again. Removing the manifolds and scrubbing is the only solution if you're not replacing them i guess.
