    Hi all,

I can't seem to find out for sure but does anyone know if a Mk7 tow bar will fit a Mk6? I've seen them advertised for both and also other places saying you need a certain one for each.

    Any help appreciated!

    Cheers
    Jordan

Can't see it being the same as they're two completely different chassis.

I though this but even when you search 'Mk6 Mk7 golf towbar' on eBay there are towbars advertised new to fit both.

Either way I've bought a used mk7 detachable bar now off eBay so we'll soon find out!

Just to follow this up for future reference the answer is no, a Mk7 towbar will not fit a Mk6! I had to sell the Mk7 one and just bit the bullet and bought a brand new Mk6 Bosal swan neck one from ECP for £100.

All fitted, wired in a 7 way bypass myself and towed for the first time yesterday with no dramas!

I will add the wiring colours here when I get a moment.

For anyone wondering, a 2.0 GT TDI can tow 1500kgs (Braked)

I know this is now an old post, but what was the difference in the end between the mk7 and mk6 towbar? I had a mk7 and bought a towbar, didnt fit it before I sold the car, I now have a mk6 2012 gt tdi. I have a mk4 golf as well and when I offered it up to the mk4, the place where it inserts in to the chassis was about 20-25mm narrower on the mk4 than the tow bar, which figures, but the mk6 I would have thought was closer?

Ultimately probably going to have to do what you did, but it would just be nice to understand what the difference is and if its something I can actually alter or is too much work (as the towbar I have is a genuine westfalia one)
