So the horn doesnt work - I have checked the fuse ( # 17 ) and swapped the relay for one off another car that the horn defiantly works
An auto electrician put a energised the relay and the horn works - He tested the between the horn switch and the yellow plug at the back of the airbag and he says that the fault is between that plug and the relay.
I swapped the clock spring off an identical spec car which I know the horn works and the clock spring off the faulty horn car works fine on the other car.
so now I am down to the fault been between the wiring after the clock spring and the relay.
I am starting to think that the fault is in the relay board - has anybody got any ideas ??
The fault code is 'control for signal Horn 009 - open or short to ground'
    Thanks

Yes - he did say it was showing +0.5V for some bizarre reason which to me seamed to indicate it might be a fault in a control unit rather than a break in a wire, but I arent an electrician
(the guy who looked at it did it as a favour in his break from work so couldn't look any further into it)

May not be any help, but my A3 wiring diagram shows the horn cables as one to earth, and other to relay.

Thanks for your help Michael - I have just sorted it - there was a break in the wiring where it goes over the steering column near the peddle box
