I have just bought a 2004 A6 Allroad. I only have one key with it and want another before I lose it or lock it inside, yes here speaks the voice of experience!
I know most people say "dealer only" but being short of cash I have often found ways around this, by finding someone to clone the chip and buy a carcass on fleabay etc etc.
Is this possible with an Audi remote fob? Any cheaper options than dealer prices?
    thanks

It can be done. I recently bought another key from China, had it cutted at a local locksmith and I manage to get the pincode from the cluster and using VCDS, code the transponder.

    Best regards.

It's easy enough to do but you will need a VagTacho and cable to read the SKU and vagcom/VCDS ebay cable to adapt it to the immobiliser. I believe VagTacho can also do the adaptation but I've always had both so used vagcom.

You can easily 'teach' the remote fob to the car as long as you have two physical keys as o e has to be left in the ignition while the other operates the driver door lock. I Can share instructions if needed. Recently posted on another thread here.

You'll need an original vagtacho for that, "cheap" copies of ebay vagtacho can't connect to the cluster on these Allroads. Trying to add a key with the cloned vagtacho would brick the cluster to get a "DEF" message. Be carefull!

Really, didn't know that. Good job it didn't brick the one on my 4.2! Was there a changeover year? Never tried it on something newer than 2000.

Don't know exactly, I thing it's after IMMO3. On my Allroad I dumped the eeprom from the cluster to get access to the PIN and then code the key with VCDS. Eeproms are (poorly) encrypted on these clusters.

Thanks everyone. I don't have cables or time to do it myself, just looking for an independent place to do it. Can anyone on this board do it without the car or do you have to have car?
