    Hi all,

so as title says P0234 error code thrown up.

had the car a couple of years and the turbo has always been "whiney" but today it was excessively whiney (siren like). well i was going up a steep hill and thought id give it some beans (thought turbo could do with a clear out) a load of smoke came out the back and then limp mode.

switched engine off, turned back on, had turbo functionallity but still really whiney. the odd squirt of diesel and smoke out the back so eased off and nursed the car home.

thats when i put the fault reader on. P0234 - supercharger/turbocharger overboost condition

so my question is this... do i just bite the bullet and get a new turbo? do i fit myself or take it to the local specialist?

could it be something a lot simpler than a dead turbo?

so many horror stories out there, just dont know where to begin..

    all help most appreciated

    Cheers

    **update**

spoke to a local garage today and they quoted £860 +vat for a recon turbo and fitting.

    WHAT THE ****?

i can pick up a recon from either turbo technics, cr turbos, or others for £250ish +vat. and fit myself.

now my question is, who rates what comoanies for theor recon turbos?
    looking to buy one tomorrow

    cheers all

    Hi Guys

    a little update coming up

So, nothing has happened since my last post. been far too busy with work etc.

Anyway, with regards to the turbo and the overboost issue. i decided to go down the route of having a terra-clean performed on my egr and turbo system.

everything been cleaned lovely. actuator has a nice fluid movement on it now (unlike before when it was stiff and squeeky)

Anyway the issue of overboost is still here. what could i try next? vac check? as aparently the vac control units on the mk5 can throw up issues.

or is it turbo replacement? if the turbo is clean and free of carbon build up but still giving overboost surely thats not a turbo issue?

    All input greatly appreciated.

    cheers

Yes, get it professionally fixed for around £900 which is a typical price.

900? you must think im made of money lol.

id prefer to at least try and rectify the issue myself before i go down the garage route.

been quoted 700 for a recon garrett, oil feed and return and labour.

but the thing still stands with regards to fact that turbo is now clean so why is it still overboosting

Because it is worn inside... £700 is too cheap for the job done with an oil/filter change and the all important downpipe clamp which often resists being re-used.
