That's interesting to know. I lost count today the number of times the car shut down then restarted within a second. In that time, you lose power steering as well which doesn't help at all.

I noticed this when I got my FL last month, now when I am about to come to a dead stop I feather the peddle to bring to a gradulenstop and it doesn't switch off.

If I continue to hold the brake at the same pressure until I stop it switches off

People seem to be spending more time trying to defeat the silly automatic systems on their cars than they do on concentrating on their driving

If it's that bad there's an off button On the dash. It's quite dangerous trying to beat the system.

If it makes you feel any better my 3.0 272 does the same thing and seems to be doing it more recently which makes me wonder if it could be an ambient temperature issue as its only since it has got warmer that I have noticed it doing it more when I am slowing down rather than when I have actually stopped?

Ambient temp makes a huge difference. In this weather above 12 degrees I find it works overtime. Suppose in this weather it takes less effort to restart and you will be unlikely to be using the heating and stuff. Maybe air con.

Interesting, I noticed the same on a first day. My previous car did not shutdown until fully stopped. However I can confirm that start/stop depends on how hard you press the break. I am now able to stop the car without start/stop kicking in. A6 is like a women, you need to learn how to touch her so she will make the most of it

Even with gentle brake pressure mine cuts out. It did it today as I was coming up behind traffic on a tightening bend at approximately 5 mph. No steering assistance. As soon as the car came to a halt I took my foot off the brake and the effing thing started again! How can that be safe FFS?
Also, approaching the junction at the end of my street first thing this morning, I came to a momentary stop, tried to join the traffic only to get a seconds delay as the car restarted then hesitated as the revs built before I could pull way. I do not feel it is safe and will find a way to get this de-activated, probably permanently.

I set the button on mine (2014) to remember the last status:

    25. Disable/memorize/invert Start & Stop
    [Select]
    [09-Cent. Elect.]
    [Security Access - 16] (enter security code - 20113)
    [Adaptation - 10]
    Select Channel 34 and Read
if you subtract 4 from the original value --> Start&Stop always disabled
if you add 32 to the original value --> memorize last status (the Start & Stop status at engine startup will be the one at last engine shutdown)
if you add 64 to the original value --> Start & Stop button light will be reversed: off if Start & Stop is disabled, and on if Start & Stop is enabled.
    Press Test then press Save

Thanks to diecastsink for finding and posting this up.
Not sure if this works on 2017 models, but if not (or you don’t have VCDS) Carista claims to change the setting:
