My 1.9 130 PD is on long life servicing.

The car has 172k on the clock and average 400 miles a week.

Having read numerous posts about oil change intervals, I was thinking about keeping the long life servicing, but changing the oil at say 5-10k miles.

I reckon this might be a good compromise to keep the service costs down, but protect the engine as much as poss...what do you reckon?

On the subject of oil, thought about using the Halfords fully synthetic stuff, which says it suitable for VAG PD engines - any comments on using this oil would be appreciated?

Also has anyone used one of those Pela Oil suction pumps; wonder if the pump is strong enough to suck all the grunging deposits as well from the bottom of the engine?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
My car has done 130k and I do similar mileage each week so I had decided I'll be changing the oil every 5000 miles too.. regardless of when I get it serviced.

I bought the Halfords Full Synth for PD engines... well I bought two as they had a BOGOF offer on at the time. Used 1 bottle so far about 3k miles ago... seems good so far. Will definately be using the other 5L soon.

The oil is from a well known manufacturer (can't remember who) and it clearly states that it is suitable for PD engines and meets the requirement for 505.01 etc. Don't think it's long life oil though.

If your changing the oil more often then the Halfords will be fine. I would recommend as the miles go up changing a little more often

Castrol make VAG oil, so their oil is spot on, any others i would think is an approximation.

all the oil companies have to dig deep in their pockets for the accreditation to be able to put the VWxxx.xx and ther manufacturers specs on the oil labels. I know TOTAL / ELF paid in excess of 500,000 euros
