    Hi,
    I'm hoping someone might be able to help me. I have a 57-plate GT TDi 170 DPF. Recently I have noticed that when I stop at traffic lights there is a slight smell of exhaust gasses in the cabin. This was recently looked at at a VW specialist.
    They found that where the turbo connects to the DPF there is a clamp/union which looks like there is a leak of gasses as the connection is sooted up. They have quoted me £400 to replaced the connection as apparently you have to drop the sub frame to do this. Does this sound right? Or can it be changed without having to removed anything and nibble arms. I have looked and I can't access from the top as the bolt appears to be on the bottom of the clamp that is facing down.

    The DPF comes out without dropping the subframe and even if you do drop the centre section it is quick and easy. IF the centre section is removed the bolts MUST be replaced.

    Done loads. New clamp and a metal ring gasket. No need to drop the subframe. Just remove the clamp and ring. Undo a 13mm bolt on the left just behind the head under exhaust gas pressure sensor. Then undo 2 13mm nuts on back of block that hold the lower part of the dpf. Remove dpf to front silencer sleeve. Fit new ring gasket and clamp nip it up gently keeping it completely flush with turbo flange. Then gently nip up the nuts and bolts previously mentioned and fit a new sleeve. Then tighten up from dpf/ turbo working backwards to sleeve. £400 is a hefty bill. Parts genuine are max £30. Easy peasy on a ramp. Think we charged the last customer about £120 all in.

    Hi I have a leak between dpf and turbo and can see black deposits under v clamp so went to dealer for clamp which I’ve got but they’ve told me it’s common for dpf to warp and that changing clamp and small metal ring seal will not cure the leak/fumes to cabin??Is this the case?If so is there any alternative to a new dpf?Also what is the sleeve mentioned in the above post couldn’t see this on vagcat so haven’t got yet is this essential to change or could this cause spot deposit near clamp?car is 2.0 cr tdi 59 plate golf.

    Well that would be good news -will have a go Thursday thinking sleeve must just be joint in pipe half way along floor?
