For work I cover alot of motorway miles, but most journeys end with some form of offroading at a site. Either driving around a quarry, down a mud track, through fields etc.

I have just got an allroad to make the offroad bits easier (my a4 and the misses a3 were taking a hammering!)

I would like to consider tyre options, I see there is a tyre specifically for the allroad, but not sure if there are other suitable tyres out there.

Naturally i need the impossible a tyre which is comfortable and quite on the motorway, girppy in the wet and dry. But also something that gives enough traction to head offroad. Its never going to be extreme offroading, but something that can get me accross a slippy field etc.
I ran M+S tyres on the a3 and it always did quite well, so I am considering something similar for the allroad.

Anyone got any experiance or recommendations?

    Thanks

We run a original Range Rover which I wanted to use on a modern up to date tire, so quite a bit of research got me to Michelin Latitude Cross.

As well as some fairly extensive off road with water crossing, sand, mud, grass etc we also run it on long road journeys. So far they've been
absolutely brilliant, I knew they'll not stand up to a specialist mud tire but their range of competence has amazed me and they are really
quite / refined on road. It's been twice down across France on trips of about 2000 miles each and as smooth / quiet as anything. We've run
it at more or less constant 80 to 90 Mph for 600 miles straight with them being as civilised as a good road tire, allover good road grip and, on a
vehicle not necessarily considered as having advanced high speed handling characteristics, it displays no faults that I can find. You can really
lean on them as well with them behaving very progressively. I'm seriously impressed with what they cope with, unsure if they'll have a compatible
size for you but worth some investigation.

Another tire I've been impressed with recently is Falken AS200 all weather, fitted to front wheel drive car recently and again I'm surprised at how
good they are and the grip they've given in warm / hot conditions, snow flake marked for winter as well but will have to wait to find out effectiveness
    later this year.

Thought I would update with my final decision.
Ended up with some 16" wheels and bfg tread style tyres (copys as I could afford the real deal!)
Before and after pics, but I did change from level 2 to 4 between pics!

The offroad tyres gave an additional inch of ground clearance!
