How does the limiter work? Is it software based in the ECU? A friend of mine managed to get his car to 160, and I would have thought it shouldn't be able to go that fast unless you specifically paid to get the limiter removed?

If it was 160 on the speedo then likelihood is it was probably around 150-155 real speed, according to these guys Audi Mercedes BMW 155mph Speed Limiter Removal it would seem an ECU based limiter is installed if they claim to be able to remove/adjust it?

Audi is notorious for having set a higher top speed than both Bmw and MB on their cars. At least so over here. It may be that export cars have a different limit set.

Had my BiTdi up to 268km/h (167mph) and the S6 at 270km/h (170mph) before the limiter kicked in. The latter got there a lot quicker than the BiTdi too

My GTD is circa 4-5 mph out at 70mph. Meaning I can do 54mph indicated through the average speed cameras.

My 535d is only about 2-3mph off.

This is all based on GPS speed form apps and GPS data loggers.

Try that test again with brand new tyres and completely worn tyres. You will find there is a 3% or so difference between the two.
