    Hello everyone.

I currently own a 2007 vw Passat B6 with the highly praised BKP engine..

Over it's time with me I've had a few issues which I've resolved but one thing that still evades me is the heating on this thing.

Ok so when the weather is hot say around 20 degrees I can get full heat out of the vents with no issues no matter the fan setting.

When the temp drops to around 10 I struggle to get heat out of it. If I set my fan to 1 I get a strong heat. If I set my fan to 2 I get less of a heat so on and so forth till I have the fans set to max and for a few moments I will get a strong heat until it fades to luke warm

I thought it may have something to do with the heater core so I put some whyms coolant flush in and and flushed all the coolant out and replaced it. No dice still the same. (I've done this twice Btw)

I had a play with the heater control and held down AC and the air recycle button and this made the console flash and the vents cycle from cold to very hot. Hotter than they car has ever being. When the cycle finishes it goes back to what ever heat it was putting out prior.

Any idea guys? Possible heater core failer or something else?.

Not to sure if there related but also when I'm driving I get the sound of running water above 3k?

    Thanks guys

Ahh dam I was hoping it would be something easy.

Would attaching a hose pipe onto to the reverse end of the matrix core and have a house on the oppersite side have any luck?

I have tried it with a high pressure Karcher steam cleaner and it won't budge. The anti burst top flow design of the matrix means all pressure just flows across the top and back out which confuses people because they see hot water going in and out and so assume the matrix is OK. In my experience I first started seeing this in the Golf 2 in the early 90's.

    Ok thanks for that.

Moving forward would the only solution to be replace the heater core? Would prefer that to be the last resort..

Put up with it? Make sure the electric supplementary element is working. Add some DEI Water Wetter Heater Hotter 16oz at CAM Auto , you will still end up changing the matrix....
