Anyone have any ideas on the above problem?
My trusty B7 has given me 9 years loyal service but recently I braked hard on the motorway and warped the discs
It was on its original front discs so needed replacing anyway.Rear discs were replaced last year.

So bought the parts and left them to a local mechanic to be fitted.
On the way home after collecting the car noticed it was pulling to the left under braking.
Rang the garage who said I may have a bad caliper or they just need bedding in.
I'm not convinced its either of these things,so any advice appreciated.
Taking it on a long trip tomorrow so that should rule out the bedding in theory..

Hopefully they fitted new pads with the new discs, in which case there is no real 'bedding in' required as the braking surfaces are nice and flat and already making perfect contact. Hopefully they also cleaned up the rust and scale from the pad carrier brackets while they were off to change the discs, allowing the pads to travel up to the disc surface without binding or jamming. Also the calipers should float freely on the pins, allowing them to apply equal pressure to both pads each side of the disc. If I was you I'd jack and support the front end take the wheels off, carefully run the engine ( in neutral obviously) to get servo operating and get someone to press the pedal and see what is going on with the caliper and pads.

You can rule out a sticky piston by driving the car and coasting to a stop without using the brakes. If the disc is hot, then there's your problem. Wouldn't be the first time I've seen a brake change where brake slider pins haven't been lubed. I use Lockheed red grease.

Only real way to check is a proper brake dismantle and inspection, especially the piston boot. Any sign of the rubber dust sleeve being twisted or cut then you could have water ingress and corrosion. Bigg Red make rebuild kits assuming the piston is still salvageable.

Regards warped discs, I've seen brake pad transfer rather than warped discs. To bed in new discs and pads for first 200-300 miles, get car up to speed then brake hard but don't come to a complete stop and remove your foot from the brake to free-wheel. Check there's no contamination or heat spots on the discs periodically.

Thanks for the replies @Rob69 They changed the pads along with the discs, they said they cleaned the slides as well. @spartacus I will try that test, don't think I will have time to dismantle it all again though. You may be right that the discs weren't warped, but with their age and 97k of mostly city driving they probably needed
replacing anyway. @Crasher The discs and pads were Apec.

After 150 miles they seem to have improved, but then I've had my kids in the car for all of that time so couldn't give them a real testing. Erratic driving usually leads to vomiting from my unfortunate experience.
I checked the last 2 mot reports and they both show a brake imbalance on the front axle of 4% this year and 9% last year. Both times the left wheel was the stronger one which would make sense with pulling to the left.
I think I will leave it for now,the only annoying part was the garage tried to mask the problem by inflating the left tyre to a higher pressure than the right to offset the brake pull.

    Thanks all

A customers car (A3 2L TFSI quattro) came in a few months back with one of the problems being the front brakes were snatching and pulling, APEC. We fitted Pagid, sorted. A local factor came in the other week trying to get me to buy that crap and as it was a lady, I said no politely.

Ok thanks Crasher, had a quick google before I bought and didn't see anything scary about them, but you live and learn.
Just noticed today when reversing out of my drive the brakes made a 'clunking' sound.A Renault I owned years back used to make the same sound,I think it was because the pads didn't fit
    perfectly in the holders. Anyways...

Must admit I've never heard of APEC, but their website looks pretty flashy, you never know where most replacement parts are getting made these days ! I'm not sure any garage would play around with tyre pressures to try and hide a braking problem though. You admit yourself the O/S brake performance has been deteriorating over the past few years according to the MOT.
