No problem. I remember the first time I tackled a head gasket change on a car - frightened me to death that I might not be able to put it back together.

And how many of them do you think have actually stripped a 2.0 litre tdi engine down and examined all of the parts for wear and tear instead of looking at a computer telling them what to undo, replace and do up again? It's there because I have seen it with my own eyes having stripped mine down with the only thing I haven't seen being the inside of my DSG box.

You can see it inside the flange picture above.

Yes there's one there on the thermostat flange as well not quite behind but slightly to the right of the alternator at the front of the engine.

Quite possibly as that's normally a sign and there's not much else that will add oil into the fuel system.

If the car is misfiring it may be that the timing needs to be adjusted as the valve timing may not be where it should be after the belt change but it could also be something else related to the injectors. I always check the injector "lash" after a timing belt change. The lash is the distance the injector piston plunger needs to be from bottoming out inside the chamber. It is set by undoing the locking nut on each of the threaded adjusters in the rocker fingers then setting each cylinder in turn to its lowest point of the stroke, followed by screwing the adjuster down until it stops abruptly thus bottoming the piston plunger in the injector fuel chamber, then backing off the adjustment by 180° degrees (which stops the plunger from hitting the bottom each time it is compressed by the rocker finger) and finally locking the position with the lock nut.

More often it's the external gasket that has failed or the bolts not tight enough (the bottom one is a pig to do up and torquing nigh on impossible with the coolant hoses on). Would do a gasket change, fuel filter change and clean up first as it's the cheapest option. There will be oil in the system for a while so add a can of Liquid Moly Diesel Purge to a tank of fuel which will help flush it whilst cleaning the injection system. Renew the fuel filter after a few thousand. I put one in every 6000 miles now as they are sub £10 and always have spares as I buy 2 or 3 of each filter at a time.
