VW T5 Transporter 2.5 TDI automatic 2005 - Just wondered if anyone else had similar fault:

Engine running as normal, but on motorway up to around 60 mph running great but when accelerated above that the power just drops off and no matter how much throttle I give it even foot to the floor will only run at approx 50/55 mph. If I pull into side of road for few minutes engine ticking over and revving fine. It seems to clear and will take throttle normally up to these speeds again. Did over 200 miles yesterday on normal A and B roads no problem, just seems to be at high revs. ie on motorway. As you can imagine, very disconcerting when power is asked for.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

you need to either scan the van or let the fault develop

Thanks Niall for your input. Update: Our mechanic right away suggested it could be the actuator on the turbo not fully opening due to carbon build up and suggested he give that a clean first. He did this and noticed resistance half way, eased this off and suggested we try this first. We gave the van a good run up the motorway and van seems to be running normally again. So here's hoping that's been the trouble as an easy fix if so!!
