Doing my suspension control arms, both sides. Nightmare of a job, as expected. On the drivers side the track rod end is seized into the track rod part of the steering rack. I have undone the lock nut but just can't undo the TRE from the track rod. I tried heat without success. I have given it a soaking with PlusGas for the night but I don't hold out much hope. Just wondering if anyone has any useful tips on how to undo it please!

Thanks for your reply. I wasn't aware that I could remove the rack part! I have no idea how to take it off, can you advise?

You have to unclip and peel off the boot on the rack and inside you will find a 32mm or possibly larger nut that attaches the inner track rod to the rack. It's pretty tight and you need the correct spanner or shifter to be able to loosen it. Access is poor in that area too, but it is easy enough to get it off.

Try Locktite freeze release. Freeze the rod not the Knuckle. Regards Peter

As Peter says, and also if collar washer exists ensure it is tapped loose, the cone shaped collar squeezes the threads tight.

Thanks Fellas! Been working on the car all day. I used a Mapp blow lamp to heat the joint area really hot and managed to free the tie rod end from the inner tie rod after giving it a couple of whacks with two hammers. Luckily I managed to protect the rubber steering rod gaiter aswell, so a good result. Cheers. Ian.
