Are there any diags available for basic air conditioning problems with VCDS? Not having climatronic there is no HVAC controller but are pressure switches in the AC system reported in any blocks?
    2001 6n2 with AMF 1.4tdi engine.
Compressor clutch engages and high speed rad fan comes on. Regassed showed no leaks. No cold air. Stumped - other than replacing compressor...

not sure about the vcds side of things but you might be best to stick a set of gauges on the HP and LP side and see what is going on pressure wise. There are some V cheap manifold gauge sets available on fleabay or some better looking sets for around 40 quid. are you sure the clutch is engaging properly and driving the compressor?

Thanks for the reply Rob. I was with the guy when he regassed and neither LP or HP needles were moving which should have been enough of a clue I to write off the compressor I guess. Although he was not 100% about the compressor. I wasn't sure how the pressure in the system was regulated which is why I thought if the pressure is being dumped the whole time it might still be a sensor? But you'd still expect some gauge indication if this was the case. I only have the Haynes manual which doesn't cover the AC circuit. The clutch definitely operates but without the dip in revs you'd expect with a little engine engaging a compressor, suggesting it's doing no work.
Those gauges look useful so thanks for the heads up for the future.

Maybe try a different pressure switch, if that doesn't work i would say the compressor is shot.

It could be the compressor is seized and the shaft sheared, can you get access to remove the pulley and check the shaft, depending on the compressor and clutch type i've had to play around with a small shim to get the clutch to engage properly.

That's a good thought. We'll have another look at that clutch actuation/compressor drive. Thanks.

Update on this one - the compressor was dud but AC is still not working correctly. With the replacement compressor fitted and regassed/vacuum leak check, the revs drop as you would expect when switching on the AC and fan goes on. The HP hose going to from the compressor to the condenser gets hot to the touch and the accumulator goes icy cold. All looks well with cool air blown into the cabin, but then gradually (2/3 minutes of running) heat goes out of the compressor / condenser pipe and warm air comes into the cabin. I was looking for the fan control module (this has basic AC, so no VCDS reports) and ambient sensor but can see either.
    Any clues please?
