    Default Timing chain query – 01-06-2017,02:46 PM
    I am trying to assist friend who is not very car knowledgeable.

    VW Golf FSI ..Petrol on a **11 *** plate.

    Stated there was a "knocking noise" when driving.

    Vehicle was taken to main VW dealer for diagnostic.

    Is being told that the timing chain has stretched, no other damage, and will cost....£3,009 to repair.

    They are shocked, so am I.

    Does anyone have any further insight or advice?

    What engine size and what engine code? Does sound expensive though.

    Believe it or not, Independants quoted a similar price, slightly cheaper.
