Hello All, I have vw polo 2002 1.4 5 DR.
I am having very confusing issues with it for last 2 months and have spent £ 600 but problem still persists. I would lists the issues along with thread links in chronological order.
[1] I had an issues with dash board having no lights and power and car not starting. I had to tow car to electrician and they did something with cluster and fixed it. It worked for 2 months till last week.

[2] Last week suddenly EPC light kicked in but after turning off and of the engine it cleared away.

[3] The very next day coolant light came in but all engine temperature was ok and coolant level good. It worked 2 days in that state and then suddenly died again.

So the car again went to point 1, no lights in dashboard. Headlights, windows, and heater all working but the car wont start. I towed it took it to mechanic. He checked fuses, battery and everything seemed fine. He asked me that he will call again in two days.

He called me today and said car is temporay fixed as engine starts but coolant light is still coming. He has changed the sensor, coolant bottle but light is still there. He is asking for £200 and advised to see electrician.

May I please ask for help as I am completely lost with this. Any help will be appreciated.

    Regards

The solder joints in the instrument panel break up over time. Hard to say without seeing the car. But back in the day i was changing maybe one a month when I was working for vw. My advice would be to take it to an independent vw specialist.

Thanks flapperjack76, yes i have already done this previously which they repaired but this broke again in two months of time. So i have taken back again. Lets see what they say this time.

Is this something I can do myself?

If you're good with electronics and soldering. Taking the cluster out is easy enough. Or find someone who is. You might be able to find an electronics firm nearby . The garage where I work has had similar things done with this method.
